Today’s MINI cars have lots of safety-based driver assistance features. Many of these MINI safety features send you warnings when you get into dangerous situations, but others have different functions that automate some parts of driving. Let’s take a look at some of the features you’ll find across the MINI lineup.
MINI Safety Features: Compact but Mighty
Active Blind Spot Detection
Your MINI alerts you when there are other drivers in your blind spots, making it easier to know what’s going on all around you when you need to. Your steering wheel vibrates and visual cues appear in your exterior mirrors when there’s a vehicle lurking just out of sight.
Lane Departure Warning
There are multiple cameras around your MINI, ensuring Lane Departure Warning can accurately detect your position in relation to the lane lines. If you accidentally drift too close to the lane lines, then your MINI sends you an alert.
Front Collision Warning with Brake Intervention
Your MINI can detect when you’re in danger of crashing into the vehicle in front of you. If there’s enough time for you to intervene and prevent the collision, then your vehicle will send you an alert, letting you know to hit the brakes. If there isn’t enough time for you to intervene, then the car does it for you by swiftly activating the brakes after sending the alert.
Active Driving Assistant Professional
Driving Assistant Professional lets you drive hands-free at speeds up to 37 mph. You need to keep your eyes on the road and be ready to take over the driving at any time. Your vehicle can turn, stop, go, and even change lanes. You need to activate the turn signal to get the car to change lanes by itself.
Once you hit 38 mph, you have to put your hands on the wheel, but the vehicle will still steer itself and can change lanes when you use the turn signal.
Rear Cross Traffic Warning and Rear Collision Prevention
While you’re reversing, your MINI is aware of what’s going on in the area behind your vehicle. If it detects a potential hazard, then it sends you an audible and visual alert so you become aware of the danger and can react accordingly.
Exit Warning
With Exit Warning, your MINI remains aware of your surroundings even while you’re attempting to exit the car. If there’s a cyclist or driver approaching from behind while you’re opening the door, then your vehicle will send you an alert so you can pause and wait for the driver or cyclist to pass you by before you open the door.
