There’s a lot to love about the 2021 Mini Cooper. With its British heritage, it oozes personality and
charm, while its German engineering ensures a fun and quality automobile.
Basics About the 2021 Mini Cooper
This classic British car now operates under the German BMW hood. The 2021 offering of this stylish, small hatchback was released in late 2020. It comes as either a two or four-door; or in convertible form as a two-door. There’s also an electric SE version and a performance-oriented John Cooper Works. Two-door models are designed to fit four people, and the four-door models seat five with extra cargo space. They are all classified as subcompact cars.
Pricing and Models
The Mini Cooper comes in a variety of models and trims for 2021. Buyers can choose from five models; the two-door hardtop, four-door hardtop, two-door convertible, and the two larger models; the Countryman, and Clubman. All models have three different trim options; Classic, Signature, and Iconic. Trims differ slightly with models, but generally, Signature trims benefit from touchscreen infotainment, heated seats, keyless entry, and Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control. Iconic receive these extras, plus premium leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, and connected navigation.
There are then five different engine options, dependent on the chosen model.
Cooper
The base trim Cooper is available on all models, excluding the Clubman. It features a 1.5L TwinPower Turbo, inline 3-cylinder direct-injection engine with double VANOS. It creates 134HP, and two-door models can do 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds. The Classic two-door in the classic trim retails at $22,400, with the four-door priced at $23,400.
Cooper S
Available on all models, the Cooper S features a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo, inline 4-cylinder direct-injection engine with double VANOS. There’s 189-HP, and 0-60mph can be done in 6.5 seconds in the two-door model. The Classic two-door Cooper S has a recommended retail price of $26,400 and the four-door $27,400.
John Cooper Works
Built for performance, the John Cooper Works features exclusive upgrades such as an ergonomic leather steering wheel featuring F1-style paddle shifters, a sport exhaust, and an optional Nitron suspension with separately adjustable front and back dampers. It is available on all models except the four-door hardtop. It features the same engine as the S but creates 228HP, and the two-door does 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds. The Classic two-door hardtop is priced at $32,400.
Cooper SE
The all-electric Mini is available as a two-door hardtop or Countryman. It has an estimated range of 110 miles on a full charge and can take just 36 minutes to charge 80% at a fast DC charging station. It creates 181HP, and the two-door does 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds. The Classic two-door has a recommended retail price of $29,900.
New Features
2021 sees the official US release of the fully electric Mini Cooper SE. It comes with a low price point without compromising on space, design, or driving fun. A new 6-speed manual transmission is available on all Coopers except the JCW convertible. There’s a $1000 price drop on the Cooper, Cooper S, and JCW hardtops and convertibles model, excluding the JCW convertible.
The largest mini model, the Countryman gets a ton of new features, including refreshed front and rear fascias, new standard LED headlights and LED fog lights, Union Jack LED taillights, a Standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, and a leather steering wheel.
